When Sophie first adopted Millie she had no idea how much it would change her life for the better.

Sophie described owning Millie as “enjoyable” and highlighted some key memories with her, such as their regular beach tips where Millie runs around contently with her ball.

Sophie described the adoption process as “quick and easy.”

She said: "We did all of the paperwork when we decided to reserve her, and then we went to visit her at a follow up time.”

Sophie and her family then received a house visit from Dogs Trust before they then became Millie’s brand-new owners.

"Millie came fully vaccinated and neutered. I remember about a week after we got her, we took her to the Dogs Trust Clinic for a check-up, which went really well.”

Sophie said: “The house Millie originally lived in was a rental and the Landlord wanted the tenants to give away some of their dogs.

“We were led to believe that Millie had been mistreated because of how she behaved when we first adopted her.

She described how Millie was nervous for a while after she moved into their house.

“Millie was timid around my uncle and it took her a while to warm to new men.

"This was especially when they approached her with something in their hands.”

She said: “We couldn’t go near her with a hoover or brush otherwise she would freak out.”

Sophie recalled what her family had put in place to help calm Millie's nerves.

“When we adopted her, we made sure that she had a safe space with blankets and toys, and we also made sure that she had plenty of food and water."

Many years on, and Millie is fully settled in Sophie's house.

She said: “Rescue dogs have pasts and they deserve loving homes,

after what they have been through.”
